Differences: Which model should I buy?
The main difference between the models is the release date. As listed in the table below, the first generation of the Hyperx Quadcast is already somewhat outdated. New audio standards and improvements have been continuously introduced, but of course the latest model is the best in terms of features.
If RGB lighting is important to you, you have the choice between the two S models. The 2S can also display pulsating and wave-like color gradients with its aRGB (Addressable RGB) light.
NOTE: The NGENUITY software from HyperX is only available for Windows! As a Mac user, you cannot control the colors of your microphone. In our opinion, this is a really negative point.
Due to the outdated Micro USB connection and no compatibility with software, we would not recommend the first generation at all. The S version has been revised and is therefore more up-to-date and compatible. This microphone is an affordable RGB alternative to the latest model.
HyperX Quadcast models: First impression and scope of delivery:
All four models have four polar patterns: omnidirectional, cardioid, bidirectional (figure-8), and stereo. Stereo, of course, isn’t typically used for spoken voice but is better suited for ASMR or music. In special cases, you could also record two people in stereo mode, provided you process the microphone signal afterward.
By the way, QuadCast refers to the 4 polar patterns. HyperX also offers other microphones like the SoloCast, DuoCast, and ProCast.
The initial impression of the microphones is positive — they are well built, and you can clearly notice the improvements made over time. Pricing across the models is fair, and it feels like the price-performance ratio has remained consistent. The only outlier is once again the first generation, as it’s simply a bit outdated.
Vibration and shock-protected mount included
You can also tell with the mount that HyperX has had more experience in optimizing the spider (i.e. the microphone rubber mount) with each microphone. You get a complete package of mount and spider, which absorbs the vibration noise. This is particularly useful for gaming and streaming, as you are touching the table all the time.
If you want to mount the microphone on a microphone arm, this is also no problem. All models are compatible with standard microphone arms.
RGB lighting for streamers and gamers
HyperX is a gaming brand, you should have noticed that. But you could almost recommend the microphone as a normal USB microphone, as it sounds really good.
The Røde NT USB+ is a good comparison: it sounds a bit cleaner and more natural, but costs just as much. But it doesn’t have 4 capsules and no lighting. For some this may be a gimmick, for others it’s a necessary look. The Quadcast is aware of its target group and serves it perfectly.
The only thing the Quadcast “lacks” is noise suppression; there are other gaming microphones that can filter out computer fans, for example.

Conclusion: Four polar patterns and a good overall package
If you need a real all-rounder, the Quadcast really is a solid entry-level microphone. Of course, there are other XLR microphones that can be used more flexibly, but you will need a USB audio interface to be able to use them.
We recommend the Quadcast S as a solid entry-level microphone. With RGB lighting, the 2S is of course the microphone that sounds the best and has the most setting options.
We cannot recommend the first, red generation. The fact that you cannot use NGENUITY with the microphone is a sign that it will not be updated on the software side and will therefore quickly become obsolete.
