Zealsound USB microphone: First impression and scope of delivery

The Zealsound K66 actually has good basic features: It has borrowed the design from Blue Yeti and therefore has a stand, rotary control and an included pop shield. There is also a USB cable including adapters so that you can connect USB-C, USB-A and Lightning devices. Compatibility is definitely a top priority here.

Nevertheless, the first impression is rather poor. The materials look cheap, so we plug in the microphone (via Plug&Play) and find that it sounds terrible.

The microphone cannot be used without pop protection, as the P sounds not only overmodulate and distort, they also destroy the entire audio signal for a moment. And that’s not all: if you move a little further away and use the pop screen, the audio quality is also poor. Every iPhone or modern smartphone sounds better, the bass and especially the treble are imprecise and cut off. As a result, the mids are far too dominant.

What is the K66? Gaming microphone? Podcast microphone?

The packaging of the K66 says a lot: However, it is not a special podcast or gaming microphone. It is simply a condenser microphone with low sound quality. You just have to say it that directly.

But the Zealsound has one advantage: it is truly compatible with many devices and can theoretically also be used for podcasting and gaming. Whether with iPad or iPhone, Windows, Mac or even console: With the USB and Lightning adapters, you can plug the Zealsound USB microphone in anywhere.

Very compatible! And that's all

Apart from the positive point of compatibility, the condenser microphone simply doesn’t make a good impression. It is not particularly robust, feels and sounds cheap. The built-in microphones in most smartphones sound better than this microphone. The mute function works, but the controls seem inferior.

If you want to use a digital and very simple reverb effect, you can do so with the K66 USB microphone.

Conclusion: Not a USB microphone that we recommend.

The results of this test are consistently negative. We therefore do not recommend this microphone. However, we have tested numerous other models and can recommend our blog article The best USB microphones, where you will find a high-quality microphone!
