Sennheiser Profile USB microphone: First impression and scope of delivery
The first impression is quite mixed. The design of the microphone is a matter of taste, and it is fair to say that the Profile is not necessarily a crowd favorite. The microphone has an integrated table stand so that it can be used directly without any additional accessories. There is also the Sennheiser Profile Streaming Set including microphone boom.
The scope of delivery is good, everything is included so that you can really get started with plug and play. Of course, there is a USB cable with USB-C connection, which has a length of 1.5 meters. Nothing is supplied in addition to the microphone itself, as the table stand is already integrated into the microphone.
Few accessories, but clever table base design
The design of the table stand is a good solution, as it not only allows the microphone to be rotated, but also tilted. Other microphones in this price range generally cannot offer this.
If you buy the Sennheiser Profile USB Streaming Set, you will get a microphone boom that is of really high quality. It is robust and can withstand the low weight of the Profile USB in the long term. However, if you invest in a heavier microphone at some point, this microphone boom is no longer suitable.
Level carefully! Or deal with clipping?!
What is immediately noticeable is that the Sennheiser Profile USB microphone is quite difficult to level. The microphone with condenser capsule was developed for podcasting and streaming, which makes you wonder why the microphone has a very low level output. It sounds very quiet at first. If you then turn up the gain control, the sound quality deteriorates significantly, as there is always a slight clipping. You should therefore not simply adjust the volume with the gain control, but use software to help. This is not ideal, but you can put together a setup that will definitely deliver good sound in the long term.
Zudem hat das Profile auch einen Kopfhörerausgang inklusive Lautstärkeregler, damit man sich selbst oder PC Audio mithören kann. Ausserdem gibt es einen Knopf für eine Stummschaltung. Insgesamt ein kompaktes und eher benutzerfreundliches Mikrofon.
Conclusion: A good USB-C microphone, with minor shortcomings
Once you have set up everything with the Profile USB, you are really well served with the microphone. It is relatively inexpensive, especially in the streaming set, and delivers really good audio quality. Nevertheless, we would advise beginners to use other USB microphones.
