Røde Wireless Micro: First impression and scope of delivery

There are 4 models of the Wireless Micro: USB-C in black and white and Lightning in black and white. Of course, the form factor and the charging case are immediately noticeable, as both are rather unusual for Røde. Everything is super compact and lightweight. We plug the receiver module into the iPhone and we’re ready to record. Plug and play test passed.

The complete package of two transmitters and a receiver doesn’t come in a small bag, but in a relatively high-quality charging case, which can be charged using the (included) USB-C cable. Windscreens for both microphones and magnets are also included. So you have everything you need to get started wirelessly straight away.

Rode Wireless Micro Review Scope of delivery

Technically simple wireless microphone system for smartphones

It really seems as if Røde has listened to its customers. You no longer have to buy the magnetic attachment separately or slide it onto the clip; the clip itself is now magnetic. The associated magnet can simply be held to the inside of the garment and the microphone stays in place. Easy! The Gainassist automatic level control helps with leveling and does its job really well, you don’t notice any gain control during and after recording. The quality of the audio recordings is really good, especially in comparison with very inexpensive small models!

Smaller and white transmitters for subtle recordings

The size and the white option (for weddings or people who like to wear light-colored clothing, for example) make the Rode Wireless Micro subtle to use. With the Røde Capture app or the Røde Reporter app, you are super flexible on the go and can also use the Connect app to adjust the microphone settings without a screen in the receiver. So you are super mobile! The range is also really good, but as with other wireless microphones, you have to make sure that there is visual contact between the receiver and transmitter. Otherwise there will be dropouts over longer distances.

The set offers up to 7 hours of recording, the battery life is of course crucial here, the storage space on the smartphone must be available. When all devices are charged, the battery life lasts up to 21 hours with the charging case. The transmitter module and receiver module are charged automatically.

Sound

★★★★★
The sound is easy to understand, the bass is a little lighter, but first class for the price and size.

Connectivity

★★★☆☆
The connectivity is good, thanks to the apps and the various connections. Jack inputs and outputs have been saved.

Workmanship

★★★★★
The workmanship is high quality and the charging case also looks robust. The small transmitters are lightweight, but not cheaply made.

Conclusion: “The Mic for you”? Recommended for content creators!

The Wireless Micro is ideal for recording on the go. The case is slightly larger than an AirPod case, but is super easy to carry in a trouser pocket. So you can start recordings super flexibly. The only disadvantages: You can’t connect a lavalier microphone and the receiver doesn’t have a jack output for a camera, for example. So you’ll probably have to fall back on the Wireless Me Duo. But if you just want to make a video with your smartphone and need good sound, this is the right choice! The microphone is compatible with Android and iOS. A good complete system for on the go!
