Rødecaster Duo: First impression and scope of delivery
The Rode Rodecaster Duo makes a solid first impression. To be honest, we were surprised at how big the “small” version of the mixer is, measuring 225 x 235 x 76 mm. This is still compact for the range of functions (which we will discuss later). The mixer comes with a sufficient scope of delivery, including the power supply unit and a USB-C cable. Once you have connected the PC and a podcast microphone, you can get started right away.
For a device with many functions, the fact that it can be operated plug and play really stands out. The user interface is intuitive, complex but not confusing. What quickly becomes apparent is that it’s super easy to have fun, as the faders and smartpads are easy to operate.
Technical features
The heart of the mixing console is the powerful quad-core audio processor, which ensures latency-free and high-quality audio processing.
The device offers two high-quality combo XLR inputs with built-in, low-noise preamplifiers that can easily supply even demanding broadcast microphones. This is complemented by four individually assignable Smart Pads, which can be used to trigger sounds, effects or MIDI commands – perfect for live productions. If you need more inputs, you should take a look at our Rødecaster Pro II Review!
Another highlight is the comprehensive USB connectivity: two USB-C ports allow simultaneous connection to multiple devices, ideal for multi-source setups. There is also Bluetooth support for wireless audio transmission and seamless integration of calls or music.
DSP Aphex
The sound is controlled via the integrated APHEX audio processor, which offers professional effects such as Aural Exciter and Big Bottom. In addition, the EQ, compressor and noise gate can be individually adjusted – directly via the intuitive touchscreen interface.
Audio Production Studio for streams and podcasts
The Rødecaster Duo is more than just a mixing console – it’s a complete audio production studio for content creators. Thanks to its versatile routing options, customizable audio processors and seamless integration into streaming and recording setups, it offers everything you need for professional podcasts and live streams. Whether you’re a solo streamer or a multi-person podcast, this device allows you to create high-quality productions without complicated post-processing. The practical thing about it is that you can save presets. This means you can also realize several projects with one device and always have the right settings at the start.
Conclusion Rode Rødecaster Duo: Best podcast mixing console!
Overall, the Rødecaster Duo delivers a first-class combination of ease of use and professional features that make it one of the best options for high-quality audio productions. You can really tell that Røde has already gained experience with the previous models and has applied this experience. We compared the device with the Mackie DLZ Creator XS and would recommend the Røde (especially for podcasts), as it simply offers the more well-rounded overall package
