Our rating:

Sound
★★★★☆

We have not yet been able to find a better sounding microphone for the price. If you want a more professional sound, you have to invest more.

Connectivity
★★★★★

The connectivity is great (XLR+USB) but there is no software as with other models

Workmanship
★★★★☆

Of course, everything is made of plastic at this price, so if you expect more you have to pay more.

Fifine AM8 in test: Scope of delivery and first impression

When you take the AM8 out of the packaging and connect it via the USB-C port, you immediately notice the RGB lighting. The dynamic microphone is designed for streaming and gaming, but can also be used for podcasts and other voice recordings. We have already tested many microphones and we have to admit: The first impression is really not bad for the price. You get everything you need to get started, i.e. a stand, an integrated pop shield and the USB-C to USB-A cable for PC and Mac. The first sound check is also amazing for this price.

By the way: The microphone is also available with a microphone boom. This is not of super high quality and we would not recommend it as a stand-alone product. However, it is unbeatable value for money for the bundle price. We fear that it won’t hold well after a short time.

Sound quality: How does the AM8 really do?

Of course, the most important thing with a microphone is the sound – and here we had deliberately set our expectations low. But even the first test with the Fifine AM8 surprised us positively: the voice recordings are clear, present and pleasantly warm, which is anything but a matter of course with dynamic microphones in this price range.

Plosive sounds (P, T, K) are also well absorbed by the integrated pop protection. The background noise is moderate, which is a clear advantage for use in rooms that are not perfectly acoustically treated. This is a particular plus point for gamers who often record in rather noisy environments. Via XLR on an audio interface, the sound is very similar, but almost a little fuller and more differentiated.

Technical data: Is there a catch?

The first question that arises is: Is there a catch here? We have already tested several microphones and, for example, gave the Zealsound in a similar price range a completely poor rating because it was unusable in terms of sound quality. But the Fifine AM8 sounds really good for its price! It has a USB connection, or if you have an audio interface, you can also use the model with an XLR connection. However, the RGB light is then deactivated.

It is a dynamic microphone with a cardioid characteristic. It can be operated via XLR and USB. There is a mute switch and a gain control. The second control regulates the volume of the built-in headphone connection. This cannot be used for XLR operation.

Entry-level model for streamers, gamers and podcasters

The microphone is a really good basic investment for Discord, Twitch, YouTube or your first podcast. Thanks to the optional model with microphone boom, you can also place it close to your mouth so that background noise no longer disturbs you. At the same time, you benefit from good speech intelligibility and a more consistent sound, especially during longer recordings or live streams. Thanks to the plug & play USB connection, setup is really easy, even for technology novices. This means you can get started without a lot of setup or prior knowledge. The disadvantage here is that you are not as flexible with settings as with microphones that offer additional software.

Our rating of the Fifine Ampligame AM8: Recommended for low budgets

A Fifine microphone for around €50 is certainly not a long-term studio investment. The workmanship is decent, but rather basic. The RGB lighting is a matter of taste, and the support of a purely online Chinese product cannot keep up with established brands such as Røde or Shure.

But: If you have a limited budget, are looking for a good entry-level microphone and are not planning any professional productions, you can get a lot of microphone for little money here. It is uncomplicated, looks stylish and the sound is convincing across the board in its price range.

The Fifine AM8 is a real insider tip for beginners who are looking for a versatile microphone with solid sound quality – whether for Discord, Twitch, YouTube or their first podcast. If you are prepared to work without premium features and brand service, you get a strong overall package at a low price. To be honest, we are pleasantly surprised – and recommend the AM8 with a clear conscience.
