DJI Mic Mini: First impression and scope of delivery
The first impression of the DJI Mic Mini* is very positive and you are immediately surprised by the comprehensive scope of delivery. We tested the version with two transmitters and one receiver, but there is also a smaller version with one transmitter and one receiver. The DJI Mic Mini makes a high-quality impression as soon as it is unpacked. The transmitter is small and ultra-light at just 10 g, which also ensures that it is particularly comfortable to wear.
DJI was particularly generous with the scope of delivery and includes everything that is important and useful. In addition to the transmitter and receiver, the set includes a robust carrying bag and a practical charging case, which we already know from the DJI Mic 2. This not only serves as storage, but also supplies the devices with power while on the move. What we particularly like is that DJI includes several windshield attachments. Two in classic black and two in a lighter version, which can help in particularly windy environments. There are also magnetic plates for easy attachment of the transmitters and a jack cable for connection to cameras.
The only downside is that the adapter for Apple devices with a Lightning connector has to be purchased separately, which is particularly unfortunate as it is not exactly cheap at around $19. Overall, the DJI Mic Mini gets a lot right right from the first impression. It offers a clever, space-saving concept and well thought-out accessories that make it easier to use in various situations.
Technical features
The DJI Mic Mini has a 2.4 GHz wireless connection with a range of up to 250 meters and ensures stable transmission of high-quality audio. Thanks to omnidirectional microphones, it delivers clear, detailed sound and is suitable for both mono and stereo recordings. A safety audio track is possible in conjunction with the DJI Mimo app and protects against overmodulation, offering additional flexibility in post-production. The system is versatile with USB-C, Lightning and 3.5 mm jack and works via plug-and-play with smartphones, cameras and computers.
The charging case enables 3.6 full charges, which ensures a total runtime of up to 48 hours, ideal for long sessions and audio recordings. In addition, the microphone can be connected to the smartphone or other DJI Osmo products via Bluetooth, allowing for even more flexible use. It should also be mentioned that the audio input can be too high, which could lead to clipping in certain situations.
Noise reduction on the go
A small highlight is the integrated noise suppression, which minimizes background noise and ensures clearer sound in loud environments. You can choose between 2 levels of noise suppression: light filtering for moderate background noise and stronger suppression for particularly loud environments. This allows the audio quality to be flexibly adapted to the respective situation. This is unique in this price range. Particularly convenient: noise suppression can be activated directly on the transmitter so that no additional post-processing is required. This ensures uncomplicated use, whether for interviews, vlogs or outdoor recordings.
Conclusion: Small and ultra-light with stable transmission
