beyerdynamic DJ 300 Pro X: First impressions and scope of delivery
As usual with beyerdynamic, the first impression is good: the materials are high-quality and the headphones are flexibly adjustable. And there are two sets of ear pads: one for over-ear use and one for on-ear use. That’s really great! Of course, for the price, you don’t get aluminum headphones, but (high-quality) plastic.
The headphones are slightly heavier than other DJ headphones, but still very comfortable. Only the on-ear version is slightly less comfortable after several hours.
In addition to the headphones and two pairs of ear pads, there is a cable that you can use on both sides of the headphones and a carrying case that you can use as a gig bag. Of course, the 6.35 mm jack adapter, which is a must-have for DJs, is also included.

Sound of the DJ 300 Pro X
At first, the DJ headphones don’t sound that good when compared to the DT270 Pro or DT770 Pro, for example. This is mainly because they are designed for everyday DJ use. When you’re DJing, you’re surrounded by high volume. You can hear the sound system, the guests in the club, and usually the monitors in the DJ booth are also set very loud. In such noisy environments, it is particularly important that the noise isolation works well.
The design exerts considerable pressure on the ears, which, together with the thick, soft ear pads, contributes to very good passive noise reduction. This makes them very well suited as studio headphones for recording. After all, it is crucial that the instrumental and possibly metronome on the headphones are not heard in the recording, but are nicely shielded and only audible to the musician.
A real advantage is that the sound is not too treble-heavy or shrill. At such volumes, an emphasis on high frequencies can quickly lead to listener fatigue. For the next transition, you mainly need the mid frequencies and not the super-deep bass or brilliant highs, as is the case with hi-fi headphones.
That’s why we can say that it doesn’t sound “high-resolution” like conventional hi-fi or mixing and mastering headphones, but rather reproduces exactly the frequencies you need for DJing. We would describe the overall sound as warm, compact, and earthy—with a little more emphasis on the low mid frequencies. This is thanks to a powerful 45 mm driver that produces a noticeably powerful sound.
On-ear and over-ear: the 2-in-1 ear cushion system
As mentioned at the beginning, additional over-ear ear pads are included in the scope of delivery. This means you can choose to wear them as on-ear or over-ear headphones, which offers significant added value. The caps can be replaced in no time at all without the need for tools.
When you want to change the ear pads, it feels a little unstable at first, but it’s worth noting that even after changing them several times, nothing breaks or wears out.

On the european website, you can personalize the ear cups (also known as ear caps). Here, you can upload your own images and have your own logos or designs printed on the outside according to your personal preferences. Of course, customizable ear cups cost a little more (approx. $50), but for DJs who want to show off their logo, they are just the thing!
