Pay attention to compatibility! Not every gaming headset is multiplatform

Please note: Not every gaming headset fits every platform – while 3.5 mm jack plugs usually work universally on PS5, Xbox, Switch and PC, USB or wireless models are often only compatible with certain consoles (e.g. “Xbox Wireless” on Xbox, class-compliant USB on PlayStation) and Bluetooth connections are not supported everywhere.

Even though the “Designed for Xbox” logo is very present on the product, the Turtle Beach Recon is compatible with all current consoles.

The most affordable and also the cheapest product. This gaming headset won’t win you the award for the best Teamspeak or the best monitoring quality, but honestly: for the price, it does the job.

If your budget doesn’t allow for more or you don’t have high standards for monitoring quality or microphone quality, then these headphones could be your solution. However, don’t expect super high-quality materials or unbeatable wearing comfort.

Gaming in the highest audio quality - comfort matters!

The quality of the audio signal completely fades into the background if the headphones don’t fit your ear cups. It’s not for nothing that there are so many different models from different suppliers. You should also pay attention to the comfort of your reference headphones, because if you can only wear them for 15 minutes while mixing because they are uncomfortable, then you have no advantage. Even if you want to buy high-quality gaming headphones, they should fit really well. There is often a 30-day return policy. So buy the model you like best and then decide (based on wearing comfort) whether you want to keep it.

Connection: USB, Bluetooth, cable?

Podcasting headphones podcast headphones headphones for podcasting comparison review test wireless wired

If you mainly rely on precise sound without delay in competitive gaming, then you are usually better off with a wired headset. Even though there are now very high-quality wireless models, Bluetooth headsets in the gaming sector always have a certain latency – often around 200-250 ms, which can quickly become a problem in shooters or music games.

If you want to play wirelessly, you should therefore definitely opt for headsets that transmit via a dedicated 2.4 GHz dongle. This connection is much more stable and provides almost latency-free audio transmission, sometimes in the range of less than 20 ms – a big difference to Bluetooth.

However, a cable remains the safest choice for particularly sensitive games such as rhythm games or competitive shooters. However, if you can no longer tolerate tangled cables, the right wireless headsets offer a solid and almost equivalent alternative. Provided they do not run via Bluetooth.

The best gaming headset is the one that suits your requirements.

Wearing comfort is particularly important when gaming, especially during long sessions. A good headset should not be uncomfortable or get warm even after several hours. Many over-ear models in the gaming sector are now well thought out in terms of padding, weight and materials.

However, it is important to remember that what is comfortable is subjective. That’s why it’s worth testing different models – especially if you are sensitive to pressure on your head or ears.

If you also create, stream or record content in addition to gaming, it’s worth taking a look at our other articles: Streaming headphones, Podcast headphones. Because some headsets are also perfect for both gaming and content creation.
